I already knew the topic of this email in my inbox just from the title alone. Because it IS, as you said, a special needs parent's Worst Nightmare. As the mother of a special needs toddler and the sister to a law enforcement officer I know that any loss of life is a tragedy that should always be avoided to the highest degree possible. I also know about the "Fleeing Felon Rule" but I'm not sure if it applies here since French wasn't a criminal. Ironically my brother just recently evaded charges being brought against him for shooting a fleeing subject in the back. And this happens disgustingly too often. The confidence and hubris of law enforcement officers to openly do things such as this is a very telling thing. I'm so glad that this is not over -- for the French family and for my own son. It's so sad that this had to become an example for progress to be made.
